Guys that’s the situation. There is only me in the Casino. I’m playing and the true count goes -1. I stop play because i want to wait a new shuffle. My doubt is, if i am alone in the Casino, does the dealer re-shuffle the decks when I’m waiting or will he keep the shoe exactly as it is?

I saw someone else share their one year streak and figured you all might find my inspirational as well. Up until age 35, I never ran more then a mile in my life. I just didn't think it was enjoyable to force myself to run that distance (or longer). But after gaining about 70 lbs from age 18-35 I realized I needed to do something. So my wife and I started running. Over the next six years we worked ourselves up to running a marathon. And I lost about 50lbs of that 70 I have gained since HS. But not being satisfied with my accomplishment, I searched for something else to do. So on January 1, 2016 I started my streak of at least one mile every day. Overall, it has been a huge positive to my life. I tell people all of the time that it is easier then you think. Getting up in the morning knowing you need to run at least a mile, takes so much pressure off of your life. Get up, run, feel better. Over the past five years I have been lucky enough to do most of my runs in Florida, with great (hot) weather. But here are some of the highlights if you will.
Have run on three different continents
One ocean - cruise ship
12 different countries
15 different states
Ran outside during two different hurricanes
Ran one week when the temperature was about 5 degrees Fahrenheit
13 marathons - 9 of them different (Ran Disney a lot)
I get migraines a lot, so my best guess is I have run with a migraine about 80-100 times. The running actually helps with the pain, but it comes right back after I stop
I have run over 2,000 miles in a year twice (that I tracked) and my guess is about 9,000 miles in total
I have run with a fever (cold/flu) about a dozen times.
Ran with a broken hand and cast for 6 weeks. Ran with a broken hand and no cast for one day. Also ran a marathon during this time (against the opinion of my Dr)
Ran before a surgery on broken hand (above) and then again 24 hours later with a numb arm after the surgery.
The best runs during this period were those runs on vacation in new areas. Going someplace you have never been before and waking up before the rest of the world and seeing "everything". Here are some of my most vivid memories
Historic Anacostia - Waking up early enough that it is just me and a few remaining drug dealers left on the street. As a white male in a predominately black neighborhood, the number of times I heard someone mention the cops when I was running past was very humerous.
Vegas strip - Similar to Anacostia, but with prostitutes. At 5am you tend to see a lot of women walking out of the casinos by themselves. They are all dressed well, and are carrying handbags with high heel shoes sticking out of the top of the bags
Salzburg Austria - had the opportunity to run through the hills and see sheep wandering around
Munich Germany - Outside of Munich had the opportunity to run through a few small villages and talk to a few locals that early. Also found a cemetery that overlooked three different villages. It was a spectacular view in a very serene environment
Paris - This is the city I have run the second most miles in. During runs you can go from parks to quaint little streets with bakeries that have been there for hundreds of years. The smell of flowers to flour be prepared. Everything about all of these runs has been spectacular.
NYC - This is the city that I have run most in. This is the only place I have run were I have been overwhelmed with people and distractions. It is one of my favorite places to run for that reason, but not somewhere I could run every day (that is relegated to my rural home in Florida).
Edit to add... Thanks for all the love. So here is a little bit more backstory to this. In my profession (Actuary) we have a professional journal that used to be printed on a bi-monthly basis. Years ago (maybe 2005) they did a feature on an actuary who had a running streak for 40+ years. At the time I was not a runner. But the story has stuck with me. His story was obviously much more extraordinary then mine. I do hope that I could encourage someone to take a similar journey.
I found the best blackjack game ever and just wanted to share that they do exist. (I'm not gonna say where because I don't need the casino staff to fire this terrible dealer until after I get backed off) I found a dealer mistakingly paying 2:1 Blackjack at the 6:5 table, every, single, time. Reveals hole cards constantly. Double Deck. Cuts 10-15 cards off per shoe, which is 85-90% pen. H17, DAS, DOA, RSA4, LS. This is both the only time in which the 6:5 table is worth, and the only time I am tipping for cover. This is like a dream come true. Update: When I went back in this morning, the floor manager was retraining the dealer at a table off to the side :( Big thanks to (u/aromaticsherbert), for pointing out that table max flat bets were more profitable on these rules. Variance also ran in my favor and I over doubled my entire bankroll over these last 3 days. I also earned mad comps, and have not yet been backed off from this casino.

Missing/Murdered/Disappeared: Vanished from East Texas, 2000-2020
Hello friends. Per a request, here is a running list of those who have gone missing in East Texas. As a journalist in this area, these are the individuals I have noticed as part of the missing groups I frequent. Please feel free to direct me to more. As it is my line of work, I care deeply. Some of these individuals I know about, some I do not know much about. There are many more, but this first post is just the time range of 2000-2020. I will do other time periods if there is interest, although older cases are harder to track. They are organized alphabetically. Albright, Alwin- last seen 7/6/19 walking away from his home on Scott Street in Gilmer in Upshur County. He is 74 years old with grey hair and blue eyes. He’s 5’10” and 250 pounds. He was last seen wearing a red shirt and blue jeans. Mr. Albright has medical issues and is without the medications he needs. There is a $1000 reward for information regarding his whereabouts. Anyone with information should contact the Upshur County Sheriff. Alvarado, Eric “Slow”- Last seen 11/20/18. Disappeared from Atlanta, Texas, he is 6’5” and 180 pounds. He was 32 years old, and now would be 34. He was last seen wearing camouflage pajama pants, a white t-shirt, and a gray zip-up jacket. He also may have the glasses he was wearing. He has tattoos on his arms, chest and neck. There is a $10,000 reward for information on his whereabouts. Anyone with information should contact the Atlanta, TX police. Birdwell, Jerrod- Last seen 1/6/14. Missing from Tyler, Jerrod was 17 at the time he disappeared. His height is listed as 5’5” and weight as 170 pounds, but he may have grown. He is white, with short black hair and brown eyes. There are no more details available about him. Anyone with information should contact the Smith County Sheriff. Boehm, Frederick “Lil Joe” Joseph- Last seen 1/25/01. 6’0”, 130 pounds, white male with hazel eyes and brown hair missing from Marshall. He has a rebel flag tattoo on his upper arm. His sister Jolene is searching for answers and offering a $5000 reward. Anyone with information should contact the Harrison County Sheriff. Cannon, Heather Danielle- Last seen 8/27/09. The 15-year-old disappeared from Athens, Texas. Authorities believe she left of her own accord, and she was last seen in the company of her biological father, Jerral Allen Whitley. Whitley refused to take a polygraph test after Heather's disappearance and was later incarcerated in Florida for drug offenses and grand theft. He was imprisoned for 18 months before being released in October 2014. Police have since completed excavations of a property on County Road 4837, near Larue. Anyone with information should contact the Henderson County Sheriff. Childress, Antoinette Renee- Last seen 10/13/15. Missing from Henderson at her trailer home. About a month before Childress went missing, her sister, Patricia Nichols, began receiving strange Facebook messages from her. The first message said there was an emergency and Childress needed her phone number. Three weeks later Nichols got another message that just said "Sister where are I, what's going on." On October 6, Nichols got a voice message from Childress's Facebook account. The message said something about guardian angels, but the voice wasn't Childress's. Nichols left home after that and didn't return until November 6, by which time Childress was missing. Two women contacted Nichols after Childress's disappearance and said they knew what had happened to her. The women stated Childress had been involved in using and selling drugs, and gotten some bad people angry, and was tortured and killed as a result. This information has not been verified. Childress was seeing Felipe Villanueva at the time of his disappearance. He is considered a person of interest in her case and has multiple warrants for his arrest on drug-related charges and driving without a license. His current whereabouts are unknown and it's unclear whether he's still in the area. A few days after Childress was reported missing, police found her car being driven by a man in Henderson. He was arrested on an unrelated charge, and stated Childress had sold him the vehicle, something her family finds difficult to believe. Childress has a warrant out for her arrest, but she's considered a missing person rather than a fugitive. Childress had just gotten off probation at the time and was trying to clean up her life. Her case remains unsolved and foul play is suspected. Anyone with information should call the Henderson County Sheriff Combs, Donnie “Bon Jovi” and Cynthia Arnold (went missing together)- The pair was last seen 9/26/18 in Linden, near Atlanta, Texas in Cass County. Combs called Arnold and asked her to come pick him up in Cass Countyand she left home to do so. A little while later she contacted her mother and said Combs hadn't arrived and she was still waiting at the meeting spot. Neither of them has ever been heard from again. A few days after they were last seen, Arnold's truck was found abandoned and burned in Marion County, Texas. While Kevin Dewayne Shepard Jr. and his uncle, Gary Edward Shepard were charged in Oct. 2020 with capital murder of the pair, their bodies have never been found. They face the death penalty if convicted. Anyone with information should contact the Cass County Sheriff. Culberson, Larry- Last seen 9/4/13. Larry went missing from his home on County Road 4320 in Emory. Larry had been having some medical issues shortly before his disappearance. Kim’s car was found partially crashed and abandoned in the roadway of State Highway 154 near the rural community of Rekaw, in Rusk County. Her purse ID, as well as other possessions, were at her home, according to Kim’s son James. Picture evidence of the wreck shows damage to the front and side panel of the grey four-door sedan. "The vehicle it was found still in the roadway partially crashed," her son said. "She just wasn't there." Two searches, both immediately after the crash and 170 days later, turned up nothing. A witness believes he saw her speaking with someone in a white pickup truck, but as any local knows… there are a lot of white pickup trucks in East Texas. Kim was featured on “The Vanished Podcast.” Anyone with information should contact the Rusk County Sheriff. Farrell, Justin Kyle- Last seen 05/11/04. Farrell disappeared from Nacogdoches, Texas. In March 2015, his skeletal remains were found near Cushing in Nacogdoches County, Texas. They were identified in April 2015. Foul play is possible in her disappearance, but few details are available in her case. Anyone with information should contact the Henderson County Sheriff. Gipson, Tyress- last seen 8/22/20. Missing from Jacksonville, Texas in Cherokee County, Tyress had just turned 18 and graduated. He is 6’0” and weighs 180 pounds. He has tattoos of the name “Lavance,” “BG$” and prayer hands. Missing from Timpson, Jackson was last seen near FM 1645 and CR 4230. The truck he was driving came out of a private pasture and rammed into a fence. He stopped and spoke to the elderly man who owned the land. Jackson apologized and said he would pay $120 for the damage, but said he had to run to get away from the "bad people" who were chasing him. He abandoned his Dodge half-ton pickup with minor damage and left his two inhalers, which he needed, in the vehicle. The driver’s side door was open and the truck was still in four-wheel drive. Jackson's wife was three months pregnant with their first child at the time he went missing. Anyone with information should contact the Shelby County Sheriff. Lee, Anthony Tyrone- last seen 6/25/11. Anthony was planning to go to the rodeo with his mother on the evening of June 25. When his mother came to pick him up for the rodeo, she found his home deserted. The ironing board was set up with the clothes Lee had planned to wear to the rodeo. His pants were on the ironing board with one leg dangling, as if he'd been interrupted while ironing and left in a hurry. His mother said he would not leave the house in his “house shoes” (a very East Texas thing lol) and he had $600 untouched in his bank account. About three weeks after Lee was reported missing, his mother got strange phone calls. A "death song" played on the line, then someone said, "that's what he gets for snitching." His mother noted that he had been associated with a known drug dealer and this person had wrecked Lee's car about a week before Lee disappeared. Anyone with information should contact the Texas Department of Public Safety (State Troopers). Marshall, Kimberly Ann- last seen 3/17/17 after she spent one night in the Salvation Army womens’ shelter in Tyler, Texas. She was never seen again. Martinez may have gotten a ride south with a truck driver in order to find her children; however, her family never saw her. Both the fathers of her children have been questioned and neither of them have been named as suspects. Authorities believe Martinez was taken against her will. Upchurch continues to be a person of interest due to his criminal background. Properties in Oklahoma, Delta and Lamar counties were searched, but came up empty. I can’t find an independent source to corroborate, but a personal conversation I had with law enforcement indicates they have found her vehicle in Oklahoma and presume she is dead, possibly due to drug involvement. Anyone with information should contact the Hopkins County Sheriff or Sulphur Springs Police. Meadows, Beverly Lofton- Last seen 12/26/08. A search by multiple law enforcement agencies turned up nothing. A $10,000 reward is offered for information on Lauren’s whereabouts. Anyone with information should contact the Panola County Sheriff. Tidwell, James “Jimmy” Lamar- Last seen 2/15/12. Beware: Live dealer blackjack on betonline and bovada is rigged (which you probably already know)
As confirmed by another poster here who used to work at these live dealer online casinos, there are at least two scanners in the shoe allowing the dealer to know at minimum what card is directly up next. I suspect though, they know a much deeper penetration into the shoe. There is a screen in front of the dealer just off screen that displays the current seats they need to deal, it also displays the upcoming cards (what I highly suspect). They use specific but subtle hand signals that only other players that are in on it would know what they mean. Next time while the timer is counting down to place your bets, pay close attention to the dealers left hand as they sliding their thumb down the shoe. It's hard to explain but just keep an eye on the shoe while bets are being placed. The only signal I think I figured out is if the dealer swipes their thumb down the middle of the shoe multiple times (pretending prep the shoe), it means to increase your bet. If they swipe once, it means keep your bet low. They will also periodically swipe the side of the shoe with their thumb (left or right side) and I believe that indicates when to bet the bonuses (pair or rummy). I know I probably sound crazy but i've been studying it for awhile. You can witness this yourself just by sitting at the table without playing and observe how the dealer swipes their thumb down the shoe. Pay special attention only to the players with large $100+ bets and $25 bets on the bonuses. All of a sudden they are placing $100, 200, 300+ bets and 9 times out of 10 they get either a blackjack or twenty when they do this. Also observe the dealer's right hand as players either hit or stand with the hand. The order will vary greatly depending on this so the dealer actively gives hints if they should hit or stay. The fucked up thing is, if you start betting behind them the player will leave the table all of a sudden so you can't ride the gravy train with them. I am 99% certain dealers are colluding with certain players at the table and at the end of the day, they share the winnings. Keep an eye only on the players with large bets. Don't waste your time with the others as they are not in on it and are suckers just like you and me.
I went to Vegas for the first time and playing Black Jack for the first time in real life and got my butt kicked. What is a good starting point for beginners like me to get better at the game?
For disclosure I knew I was going into this whole thing with the odds against me as someone who was completely green to playing the game. I only bet what I was willing to lose ($50) because my MO was to have fun gambling for the first time in my life as someone who is now over 21. Even though I lost I enjoyed myself because the guys I played with were patient and willing to help me out. While I was ahead for a while I even tipped the dealer a few times so she was rooting for me too. Now that the “woohoo I can gamble now like an adult!” part has worn off I want to properly learn how to play the game. One of my friends is Native American and I visit them out on the res every so often, so I have regular access to a casino. I just want to learn how to play a perfect game and maybe down the road if I maintain an interest in it learn how to count cards. I don’t really know where to start so I figured I would ask you all for any tips. Thanks!
Im reading up on strategy and it says "the dealer designates one of the players to cut, space and the plastic insert card is placed so that the last 60 to 75 cards will not be used." Wouldnt they just use a standard 52 deck? If they dont use a standard size deck does that change the strategy?
Looking for Online Casino Platform with Live Dealers
I guess my question is: Is there any other Live Dealer platforms available (I.e. live blackjack, Hold’em against the house, live roulette) besides the “Casino Red” or “Casino Black” options found on many popular sites (Bovada, BetOnline, Wild, to name a few..)? I’ve tried out a dozen different online casino platforms over the last 6 months. Every other casino I run into has only these two options available for a Live Casino. I’m growing tired of the repetitious outcomes of these 2 specific live casinos, and am looking for different options to play at. Are they out there? My location: USA, South Dakota
There is a place, I've been frequenting. Not the best game in the area, but they seem to take my action well and their comps are actually very decent (I've been playing there rated, as you may guess). I've been using little cover and a civil bet spread to gain some extra longevity. Some time ago, I've sat at a table and began doing my usual thing. Four seats on the table, I'm on one of the middle two. The guy to my side is a classic ploppy with ~95% basic strategy, playing side bets almost every hand, lingering around the table minimum, tipping too much for his own good. The gods of variance, however, have been kind to him and he's still there with me two hours later, just about breaking even. Suddenly a wild suit appears, rushing through the pit and emerging right behind us. Just as I'm saying farewells to the comps in my mind, the tap on the shoulder comes... to the guy sitting next to me. His bet gets pushed back, he gets pulled off the table just close enough for me to eavesdrop on bits and pieces of the conversation between him and the suit. "You play too well for us... you can stay on the property and play slots... no more table games..." The guy was NOT having any of it. He raised his tone (wasn't hard to eavesdrop on what HE was saying) He kept demanding whether he's being accused of cheating. He kept insisting on talking to the casino manager. Yelling at the suit something along the lines of "I won $20 in the past two hours, so you're kicking me out?!?!" As he finally came back to the table, he openly spilled the circumstance to the other players and the dealer; shared his opinions of the casino's incompetence, indicated he'll now go and play at a competitive property nearby since this casino thinks he's cheating From the little psychology I studied, his response most closely resembled one of an innocent man being accused of a crime. As he was being backed off, I was certain in my mind that the casino fucked up. It was me who was supposed to be in his place. I cannot think of an advantage play, which has you play the table minimum, side bets almost every hand and tip the shit out of the dealer. Some guy from surveillance must've made the call "guy on the second base is counting" and some dumb ass upstairs must've counted the second base from the wrong side of the table. I expected at any moment for another suit to run from upstairs yelling "WTF ARE YOU DOING, IT'S THE GUY NEXT TO HIM!!!", but such suit never came. Combating my urge to flight, I actually stayed until the end of the shoe, on which he was backed off, and an entire next shoe before I colored up. I did not change my game and spread properly. As I did color, I passed by the civilian, who was still arguing with the suit about seeing the casino manager and demanding surveillance tapes. Now it wouldn't be a real story have it not had a conclusion. I let that casino rest for the next couple months. Full of fear and hope, I finally decided to drive out again, go in guns blazing, rated, and see what happens. On my last visit there, I've played for solid 3 hours, casually chatting with my usual dealers and pit bosses, playing my usual game with my usual spread. ZERO heat and a card full of comps. Not sure how long it will last, but I believe I've earned a second life at that place at an expense of some poor ploppy's soul.
Basically, I live in Australia. We have 1 casino per state, and guess what, every single one of them uses a CSM. That said, I’m extremely interested in Blackjack and love idea of learning the game, but if the best I can do is play basic strategy and increase my edge to 49.5%, it’s pretty demoralising knowing there’s nothing I can do to actually win money. I looked into online casinos but didn’t take me long to be convinced they’re a waste of time, and there’s a CSM everywhere at live ones. Do I have any other option to increase my edge? Thanks heaps guys!
As of August 27th 2020 the dealers were given orders to cut their deck in half like they do for online casinos. Pen used to be 1.5-2decks but since then they only can now do 4 decks on an 8deck game. As of now there is no difference playing online and in house. It' over for counting there folks. Someone who works for LotoQuebec must of been watching this subreddit and that is now in effect for all casinos. Or they took into count that i can count to myself because the mask and plexiglass hide my voice and mouth when saying the count. Highly advise you to turn away from this place if you want to count here.
TIL that despite it being common practice for casinos to ban card counters, a 1979 New Jersey Supreme Court decision banned all Atlantic City casinos from doing so, making them the only state in America where a casino is forbidden from throwing out skilled blackjack players.
The guide to gaining a 10 percent edge over any house! (from a dealer)
So it's your first time in a casino or maybe you're a regular. This is your all in one guide to never lose again. First thing you need to do is find a blackjack table. Some casinos have different variations of the game with slightly different rules so just sit down at anything that looks like blackjack and don't read too deeply into it. If there's a rule you aren't clear on, don't ask the dealer about it because they'll probably lie to get you to lose more money. Also don't ask the other players because then it'll be apparent you don't know what you're doing and you'll get laughed out of the building. Instead act like you know what's going on and if you get corrected, take it personally and make sure to tell everyone "that's not how they do it in vegas". That's your go to catch phrase. You'll be saying this a lot to establish credibility. The second key factor is energy. You can't win without good energy. It's statistically proven that if there's bad energy present, you'll bust 87 percent of your hands. So make sure to yell really loudly about which card you want on every hand. Don't be afraid to repeat yourself 8-9 times. This creates good energy. Don't let the dealer off easy too if you're not getting good hands. If you're making his job harder then he'll have more motivation to give you better cards! This is another important factor. These games are all rigged. So you have to get on the right side of the rigging. You see all those guys in suits behind the tables? Those are the guys they pay to rig the games. So if you win 3 hands or so in a row and go up 100 dollars or more, these guys will start typing stuff into the computer to make bad cards come out. It's messed up but they're all cheaters and they want to take your money. They have software in the tables that can tell how much you're betting. This software communicates with a mechanism they have installed in the shoe (where the cards come out of) that rearranges cards when you bet a lot to make it so you lose every time. As long as you make sure to yell at the guys in the suits that you're on to them and you know they're rigging the game, they'll back off because they'll know you are a little too smart for their antics. Ok you've made it this far everything's going great right? But wait! There's a guy on 3rd base who keeps taking the bust card! What is he doing? This is another dirty trick that the house doesn't want you to know about. They actually pay a guy to go around each pit and take the bust card so people don't get paid out and it looks natural. If this guy ends up at your table, leave angrily and make sure to slam your chair and curse loudly so that they know you're onto them. As far as actually playing the game don't worry too much all this "basic strategy" and "card counting" BS. That's a bunch of garbage people talk about to try to sound smart. Real gamblers go with their gut. A gut feeling mixed with some good energy and statistics go out the window. Now you're ready, go get em!
It's time for holiday festivities! In addition, there are big changes to Elite and Boss monsters in this update. There are also revisions to the Ice Magic and Deer skills. And, of course, various other things as well. Read on for more info.
The holidays are upon us! While Alharth doesn't celebrate Christmas, it does celebrate Ri-Shin Day, and New Years' Day. Townsfolk who are your Friends will offer you gifts when you speak with them. (Make sure to have your favorite combat skills active in case they give you a piece of randomly-generated gear!) There's also a Ri-Shin festival waiting to happen in each city and township in the land, but they will need your help getting their trees assembled. Look for townsfolk in festive red Ri-Shin hats to get started. This year, there's also a new way for the community to work together. This is an experiment -- we've never tried anything like this before. You'll receive an introductory quest for this part of the event after you've assembled a few Ri-Shin trees. (If you're a Druid, you'll be briefed immediately upon login.)
High-Level Elite/Boss Changes
As mentioned in the last patch's notes, we're working on making high-level combat take longer. This will eventually include both solo and group combat, but we're focusing on group combat right now. Some of the big-picture details are in flux a bit as we experiment and see what's going to work (e.g. "how many Elites is a tank supposed to be able to handle at once?" answer: "we're not sure yet"). We've been improving the "tanky skills" in preparation for these longer fights, but it's been hard to get good tanking data because most high-level Elite monsters simply haven't needed a tank: a group of players could blast them to death in seconds. So it's time to make Elites live longer and see what happens! In this update, Elite/Boss monsters have a lot more health and armor, and Bosses deal less damage. We'll be watching your feedback (and our combat data logs) to try to figure out where to go from here. We may need to temporarily revert these changes, reduce them, increase them, or add more systems into the mix to address specific problems. Bosses (but not Elites) also deal less base damage than before. The actual amount varies by boss-tier and the bosses' personal stats, so it's hard to generalize, but at level 80 an "average boss" deals about 25% less base damage. Both Elites and Bosses deal less damage with their Rage attacks, also. The median reduction in rage-bonus-damage is about a 40%, but again it's hard to generalize too much. Here's some more details about the implementation.
Prior to level 35, elites/bosses have about the same overall health+armor, but some of their health has been switched to armor as a side-effect of the formulaic changes. This will make them a bit harder, so be careful!
Starting at about level 35, elites/bosses gain more health and armor than before. This increases fairly gradually until level 50, then it starts going up more quickly. By level 80, the total health+armor of most elites and bosses has almost doubled! (And a lot of that increase is in armor, which means the monster has more mitigation for longer.)
Elite/Boss Loot Changes
We've also added some additional rewards for killing Elites/Bosses. When you loot an Elite, you'll now automatically "find some Councils" on the corpse. The amount is based on the monster's level, with some random variance. Bosses also drop extra money in the form of Council Coinpurses. (And bosses with curses drop more money sacks.) Finally, the most deadly tiers of bosses have a higher chance to drop high-rarity gear. (These quick generalized changes were made because we didn't want to revise every monster's custom loot table just yet. But hey, maybe it's fun enough to remain permanent. Let us know what you think after you've had some time to try it out.)
Ice Magic Changes
Ice Magic is supposed to be a versatile wizarding toolkit: it can provide exceptional crowd control, potent survival tools, and decent damage, depending on which abilities you use. Its crowd-control abilities were already top-tier, so we've focused on other aspects of the skill in this update. There's a few nerfs and a lot of buffs. Fire Magic Over-synergy The biggest nerf to Ice Magic is actually a change to a Fire Magic treasure mod:
(Chest, Hands) "Calefaction causes target to take +45% damage from Cold for 12 seconds" => now +16% damage
We realized this mod was overpowered shortly after it was introduced, but it was a "let's wait and see if this is actually a serious problem" scenario. A lot of accidentally-overpowered treasure turns out to be fine, and sometimes an accident like that can really make everything "click" and help define a skill. But not this time. It was hamstringing our ability to make Ice Magic more powerful on its own, so it had to be reduced to a more reasonable level. (And it's still probably the most powerful cross-skill synergy mod in the game.) Cryogenic Freeze Cryogenic Freeze needs to take its rightful place in the Ice Magic survival toolbox. It has TREMENDOUS mitigation, and it's intended to be something of a "freebie" for Ice Mages: it's useful without needing to invest lots of treasure mods into it. The only cost is that you have to make room for it on your ability bar. (And treasure makes it more versatile and useful.) Of course, Cryogenic Freeze has the extreme down-side that you are completely frozen and cannot move. But now instead of a forced 10-second lockdown, you can control the duration precisely.
Cryogenic Freeze now lasts 20 seconds or until dispelled by using the ability again. The reuse timer is 20 seconds, which begins as soon as Cryogenic Freeze ends.
Power cost increased; all treasure effects recalculated in potency
Ice Armor, Ice Veins, and Shardblast Ice Armor has been buffed up a bit. We've also worked to make Ice Veins and Shardblast more useful. You can now use either one to reset Ice Armor's timer, allowing you to immediately put your armor back on. Which, in turn, allows you to take advantage of Ice Armor's healing mods again! This "Ice Armor loop" technique can be very powerful but requires a lot of treasure mods to reach full potential. It's also possible to use Ice Armor in a more passive role, and there are mods to support that style also (such as the ones that boost Cold damage).
Ice Armor: highest tier of ability has slightly higher mitigation (+27 vs crushing, slashing, piercing, and ice), and all tiers now grant extra mitigation from Elites (+54 additional at highest tier)
Ice Veins: power cost and base damage increased. All treasure potency recalculated
"Ice Armor restores 80 Power over 30 seconds" => "Ice Armor costs -19 Power and restores 51 Power after a 6-second delay"
"Ice Armor restores 170 Armor over 30 seconds" => "Ice Armor mitigates +16 Physical and Cold damage, and mitigates +32 more against Elite attacks"
"Ice Armor boosts Cold attack damage +34" => +50
"You regain 44 Health when using Ice Nova or Shardblast" => "Ice Nova and Shardblast deal +61 damage and cost -12 Power"
New treasure (off-hand): "Ice Veins heals +16 Health and resets the timer on Ice Armor (so it can be used again immediately)"
"Ice Veins heals 120 Health over 10 seconds" => 180 health over 10 seconds
Ice Veins is now marked as a Minor Heal ability (making it eligible for equipment that boosts Minor Heals).
New treasure (head): "Ice Armor instantly restores 80 health"
"Shardblast resets the timer on Ice Armor (so it can be used again immediately)" => "Shardblast deals +X% damage and resets the timer on Ice Armor (so it can be used again immediately)" *
Cold Sphere Changes Cold Sphere's old Rage attack (at high level) was a 10-second root. This was too much of a good thing and it's now a 5-second root at all levels. We've tried to make Cold Sphere useful in two different scenarios: for Ice Mages who are using a different skill as their primary damage source, they can invest in Cold Sphere mods to get a bit of extra damage on the side (plus its innate root is always handy). For players who ARE using Ice Magic as their primary damage-dealer, Cold Sphere's damage-boosting mods are often not worth using, but there's a new mod that gives it a Cold-vulnerability debuff. This makes Cold Sphere an interesting (but not mandatory) option for any Ice Mage.
Cold Sphere: increased base damage-boost of all pets level 50+. The "root" effect from their rage attack is reduced from 10sec (!) to 5sec
New treasure (chest): "Your Cold Sphere's attacks deal +24 damage and cause the targets to suffer +12% damage from future Cold attacks (non-stacking)"
New treasure (head, hands): "Your Cold Sphere's attacks deals +170 damage, but their Max Health is -80"
Other Ice Magic Changes Added a bit more damage overall. Nerfed one of Frostbite's mods, but don't be misled: it's still an extraordinarily good debuff. (And it will only become more powerful as combat duration increases! In fact, we may need to tone it down some more later.)
Ice Nova: power cost and base damage increased. All treasure potency recalculated
Frostbite ability: ability base damage increased slightly
"Frostbite deals +154 damage and raises the target's Max Rage by 79%, preventing them from using their Rage attacks as often" => "Frostbite deals +176 damage and raises the target's Max Rage by 33%, preventing them from using their Rage attacks as often"
"Freeze Solid resets the timer on Ice Spear (so it can be used again immediately)" => "Ice Nova deals +110 damage and reuse timer is -2 seconds" *
"Freeze Solid restores 161 armor to you after a 15 second delay" => "Freeze Solid restores 112 armor to you"
One-Tier Mods Changed\* You may notice a couple of asterisks above. Those are treasure mods that previously only had one "tier" of effect. The revised versions add more tiers to each mod, allowing the mods to become slightly more powerful at high level. This resulted in a slight quirk: pre-existing items with these mods are still stored as having the first tier of the mod. This means even high-level items will have the lowest-tier version of these mods. This isn't really a huge deal in terms of potency, but if you want to fix it, you can Transmute the mod off the item and then Transmute it back on -- it will be the appropriate tier when it's re-added. (And this month, Transmutation is cheap for the Ice Magic and Deer skills.)
The earliest animal forms were all experimental designs, and Deer was originally the prototypical "off-tank" skill. Then we decided that off-tanks weren't useful in a game without raids, so Deer was revised in a few other directions. But the most recent revision made Deer fairly tanky again, so let's build on that. Here's a fresh idea: what if Deer was like an "off-tank"? In old-school MMO terminology, an off-tank can act as a tank for an elite enemy (or multiple solo enemies), but may have trouble tanking some bosses -- although dedicated healers can help there. What makes them unique, though, is an ability to take over aggro for anyone... including a tank! (Hence the name "off-tank", because they can pull monsters off the tank.) We'll try to give Deer that ability and see what it's like. There's new treasure that gives you a new sidebar ability "Feign Injury", which "temp taunts" a target. Temp taunting works like regular taunting, except it decays at a rate of 20% per second. So a temp taunt of +10,000 would be 10,000 Taunt at first, then a second later would be recalculated as 8,000, then a second later as 6,400, etc. So this ability should help Deer get aggro from anyone, anywhere... at least for a few seconds. An off-tank should also have solid taunting and survivability, and deal decent damage. So that's what we'll try to do here. In addition, the Deer skill has always had incredible mobility (which is what makes them an interesting off-tank), and we want to keep that too. Rethinking Deer Pet Deer players can summon an ally deer to aid them. Previously these deer had an innate 300% taunt multiplier and were intended to be sort-of off-tanks themselves, sharing tanking duties with the player deer. We recently gave these summoned deer the benefits of our experimental genetics system, which could randomly give these pets incredible health and armor. Better for tanking! But yet... at high level, a well-equipped player deer can easily out-taunt and out-tank a pet deer. This just feels like an unwieldy design. We've dropped the idea that these pets are tanks, and focused them on damage. They no longer have an innate taunt bonus or souped-up genetics. However, they have higher base damage, and the pet's taunting-related treasure effects have been changed into a damage boost. There are also new treasure mods that summon additional deer for a few seconds at a time. This makes for a fun solo build, although it's somewhat mod-intensive and also pretty chaotic. But a fun kind of chaotic! (For those who don't want chaos, we've also bumped up Deer's more traditional murder methods.) It's useful to know that every attack your pet deer makes is considered a "deer kick". This is relevant for one specific treasure mod:
(Hands, Necklace) "Deer Kick implants insect eggs in the target. Future Deer Kicks by any deer cause target to take 310 Nature damage over 5 seconds"
This mod is unchanged, except that it no longer stacks more than four times: twice for each piece of equipment it can show up on. (That's *not* a limit of 4 stacks of damage, it's 4 stacks of the debuff that applies the damage!) Also, we've reworded the effect to clarify that pet deer can trigger the damage. Removed treasure mods We've tried hard to avoid breaking existing equipment by repurposing obsolete Deer effects with new ones. However, in one place this was impossible. A head-slot mod was removed without any replacement. If you had this mod on a piece of head gear, that item has become "Legacy", meaning it will stop working after a month. You can fix this by using a Transmutation table to remove the mod off of your helm, or you can speak to the Legacy Golem in Serbule to receive a randomly-generated replacement item. (Transmutation of Deer treasure is much cheaper this month, to help you adjust to these changes.) Specific Deer Changes
Doe Eyes: Power cost increased. Ability now resists more physical damage, especially against Elites, and lasts for 24 seconds instead of 10. (At level 77 it now gives 36 mitigation, plus 72 more vs. Elites)
"After using Doe Eyes, your next attack deals +169 damage" => "Doe Eyes reuse timer is -2 seconds, and after using Doe Eyes your next attack deals +190 damage"
"Doe Eyes heals 80 health" => "For 10 seconds after using Doe Eyes, you mitigate +36 from all attacks, and a further +72 from Elite attacks"
Ability "King of the Forest": base damage and Power cost increased slightly; all treasure stats tweaked slightly as a result
"King of the Forest gives you +15 mitigation of any physical damage for 20 seconds" => this effect was available on two slots, but only applied once. This was intentional at the time, but now we're trying to make all treasure mods stack together when possible. New (stacking) version: "King of the Forest mitigates +14 physical damage (Crushing, Slashing, Piercing) for 10 seconds. Against Elite enemies, mitigates +28 more"
"Cuteness Overload heals you for 114 health" => "Cuteness Overload Damage +270"
"Combo: Deer Bash+Any Melee+Any Melee+Deer Kick: final step hits all enemies within 5 meters and deals +100 damage." => deals +240 damage
Summoned Deer no longer have the benefits of the experimental genetics system, but have higher base damage
Summoned Deer no longer have an innate 300% taunt bonus
"Antler Slash has a 50% chance to restore 48 armor" => this effect has been replaced with an entirely unrelated effect. (head, chest): "You can use the Deer ability Feign Injury, and it temp-taunts +11300. (Equipping this item will teach you the ability if needed.)"
(Hands, Feet) "Deer Bash deals +120 damage and knocks the enemy backwards" => "Deer Bash has a 15% chance to summon a deer ally for 30 seconds"
New (ring): "Cuteness Overload deals +160 damage and knocks the target backwards"
New (Head, Necklace): "Pummeling Hooves deals +45 damage and has a 8% chance to summon a deer ally for 30 seconds"
"Antler Slash deals +X% damage" => "Antler Slash hits all enemies within 5 meters and taunts +Y". NOTE: this effect used to be available on two slots, Head and Hands. It is now only on Hands. See above about Legacy items.
"Psychic Mitigation +34 while Deer skill active" => "Psychic and Nature Mitigation +34 while Deer skill active"
"Nature Mitigation +34 while Deer skill active" => "Burst Evasion +8.5% while Deer skill active"
"Deer Kick Damage +85" => "Deer Kick Damage +45 and grants you -10% Fire Vulnerability for 10 seconds"
New: (main-hand) "Combo: Forest Challenge+Any Melee+Any Melee+Any Epic Attack: final step deals +150 damage and summons a deer ally for 30 seconds."
Live Event Token Prize Changes
We've revised some of Riston's special prizes so that they use abilities instead of items. For those that have already purchased a Vendor Fox in a Box or the Small Box of Space, the summoning item in your inventory has been converted to a skill book that will teach you the new ability. This skill book can only be used once, so use caution if you must transfer this skill book to another character on your account. Also with this change, you will have to purchase these items per character now if you wish to have it on more than one character on your account. Other important notes:
Once you learn the Vendor Fox in a Box ability, the ability requires you to have some type of crate in your inventory. Any crafted storage crate and most pet crates (when Animal Husbandry is released) will work to allow use of the ability. The crate will not be consumed. The cool down timer on the ability will reset in 2 real-time hours, but you still need to spend 2 hours in-game before you can use the ability again. (You can see that timer in your effects bar under the effect 'Boxed Fox'.)
Once you learn the Small Box of Space ability, there are no other requirements. Just use the ability to summon your storage box. The cool down timer for this ability has been extended to 90 minutes (from 60 minutes). The cool down timer on the ability will reset in 90 real-time minutes, but you still need to spend 90 minutes in-game before you can use the ability again. (You can see that timer in your effects bar under the effect 'Spaced Out'.)
As time goes by, we will slowly be adding more and more items, abilities and services to the game that will require Live Event Tokens. For this update, we have added a new 50 token prize! Find Riston in the Red Wing Casino to check it out!

I'll start off with a non-gambling event that is still vivid in my mind to this day. Its about noon on a Saturday and im playing blackjack at Hollywood casino in Columbus OH. Been playing for a few hours and it is time for a restroom break. As I walk into the restroom there is a guy in blue jeans and a white t-shirt. This guy is on his knees in front of the urinal like he is about to give it head or throw up. So I wait for a second trying to figure out what to do. I know if i'm not fast the next shoe will start without me and the next closest restroom is to far. Then I see something pink in this guy's hands Dude is holding a pink urinal cake. 'wtf, did he drop something in the urinal or his he high or drunk,' I thought to myself. I must have made a noise or something because he jerks and turns his head to me. He has pink shit all around his mouth and down the front of him. He stands up and starts walking towards me. I turn around and head back to the table at a fast past. Informing the dealer what the fuck I saw he calls the pitboss over and I tell the pit boss what I just told him. The pit boss mutters, 'not again,' and he goes and calls security. I look over towards the restroom and see dude walking in and out of the restroom. I'd hate to be the security guards that day. I don't think I could physically deal with someone covered in piss and urinal cakes. Pit boss told me there is a nearby adult living center for the mentally challenged and this dude sneaks off and has a thing about urinal cakes. Likes the way they taste or something. Whenever I use a urinal anywhere now. I can't help but think about urinal cake dude.
